## Active recall vs re-reading.

Re-reading fails because recognition is not recall. A highlighted page feels familiar, so your brain reports that you know it - right up until the page is gone and nothing comes back.

Active recall is the opposite. You retrieve the answer from memory before you are shown it. It is harder, it feels worse, and it is the best-evidenced way to make something stay. ClarifyAI quizzes you first, then brings the topic back on a schedule.

## Active recall and spaced repetition

1. ### 1. Search

Describe what you need to revise in your own words. Not a keyword - the exact part of the topic you are stuck on.
2. ### 2. Learn

Get crisp, high-yield keynotes and clear explanations. Grounded in plain language and real-life examples.
3. ### 3. Quiz

Take an adaptive quiz that immediately surfaces what you don't know. Active recall beats passive reading.
4. ### 4. Doubts

Ask follow-up questions to close the gap. The AI explains exactly where you went wrong, sealing your knowledge.
5. ### 5. Spaced Repetition

Your review schedule: day 1, 3, 7 and 30. Clear all four rounds and the topic is yours for good. Miss one and it resets.

## Spaced repetition without building a single flashcard

ClarifyAI generates the quiz from your topic, then schedules it for you. That means spaced repetition without flashcards, and active recall without flashcards - there is no deck to build, import or maintain before you can start revising.

### Flashcard apps

- You write every card yourself before any studying happens
- Tests rote memorization of a single card, not your actual understanding.
- Get it wrong and you just see the back of the card
- Scheduling is manual, or yours to configure and maintain

### ClarifyAI

- Type one topic and the lesson, notes and quiz are written for you
- Adaptive quizzes challenge your deep understanding of the entire topic.
- Every wrong answer is explained, and you can ask follow-up doubts
- Reviews return on days 1, 3, 7 and 30, and reset if you miss one

## A note from the Founder

I built ClarifyAI because I was frustrated with the tools available to students. When exams are weeks away, you don't need another generic platform trying to teach you the subject from scratch. You already went to class. You already read the textbook.

What you actually need is a way to find out exactly what you don't* know, and fix it instantly.

That's what this is. A fast, targeted, no-fluff engine to help you revise faster and retain more. I'm building this for myself, and for any student who wants to stop cramming and start mastering.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How do I memorize something fast?

Test yourself instead of re-reading. Read the material once, close it, then write down or say everything you can remember. The gaps you find are the only parts worth studying again. That loop - retrieve, check, repeat - works faster than any amount of highlighting, because the effort of pulling something out of memory is what strengthens it. To make it last past tomorrow, repeat the retrieval on a widening schedule instead of in one sitting.

### What is active recall?

Active recall means retrieving information from memory instead of reviewing it in front of you. Reading a page again is recognition: it feels familiar, so your brain reports that you know it. Covering the page and forcing yourself to reproduce the answer is recall, and it is measurably harder. That difficulty is the point, because the effort of retrieval is what builds a durable memory. Every ClarifyAI lesson ends in a quiz for exactly that reason - you are tested before you are told.

### What is spaced repetition?

Spaced repetition means reviewing something at widening intervals rather than all at once. Memory decays predictably, so the most efficient moment to review is just before you would have forgotten. Each successful recall flattens that decay and earns a longer gap before the next review. In ClarifyAI a topic returns on Day 1, Day 3, Day 7 and Day 30, and clearing all four makes it permanently yours. Active recall decides how well you learn something; spaced repetition decides how long you keep it.

### How do I do active recall?

Three steps. Study the material once - a chapter, a lecture, a page of notes. Then put it away completely and write down everything you can remember, or answer questions on it from memory. Then check what you missed and restudy only that. Repeat until the gaps close. The common mistake is peeking: if the material is visible you are recognising, not recalling, and the benefit disappears. ClarifyAI automates the middle step by writing the questions for you, so there is nothing to prepare.

### How do I memorize things fast for a test?

If the test is tomorrow, cramming genuinely works - for about twenty-four hours. Retrieve rather than re-read: quiz yourself on the highest-weight topics, mark what you missed, and go again on only those. Sleep matters more than the last hour of study. What cramming will not do is survive to the next exam, which is why anything you cram should be re-tested on Day 1, Day 3, Day 7 and Day 30. That is the difference between passing this test and still knowing it at the final.

### Coming from Anki, Quizlet, Notion or Obsidian?

Anki makes you build the deck. Quizlet does not schedule the review. Notion makes you build the algorithm. ClarifyAI does all three, from one sentence. You type what you need to revise, and the lesson, the quiz and the review schedule are generated together - there is nothing to import, configure or maintain.

### How is this different from just using ChatGPT to explain a topic?

ChatGPT is conversational, and it gives you text you still have to turn into revision. ClarifyAI structures the same knowledge for retention: it quizzes you before it explains, identifies your exact weak points, generates targeted keynotes rather than long paragraphs, and then schedules the topic to come back on Day 1, Day 3, Day 7 and Day 30. A chat window has no memory of what you failed last week.

### Is ClarifyAI free to use?

Yes. The free tier gives you 10 topic searches a month with one subject, and nothing about the method is paywalled - lessons, adaptive quizzes and the full Day 1, 3, 7 and 30 schedule are all included. You can earn up to three extra searches a day by watching a rewarded ad. At launch, paid plans start at 2.99 US dollars a month for 300 searches and five subjects, or 5.99 a month for 1,200 searches and unlimited subjects, with yearly options at 29.99 and 59.99 and a free trial. ClarifyAI is pre-launch, so those plans are confirmed but not yet purchasable.

### What subjects does it cover?

Almost any academic subject, from STEM such as physics, chemistry, biology and maths through to humanities and social sciences. The AI adapts to the complexity of whatever you ask for, and you can describe the request in your own words rather than a single keyword. Topics currently need to be written in the Latin alphabet; other scripts are not supported yet.

### Is my data private?

Yes. We encrypt your notes and history. For full details on data collection and API usage, please read our Privacy Policy.
